Lymph System
#
Lymph drainage is a very gentle skin technique which works on your naturally occurring lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the cleansing component of our bodies and plays a vital role in transporting nutrients, hormones, protein, long chain fatty acids while removing metabolic waste from the body. It is also part of our immune system.
The lymphatic system does not have its own pump and so our bodies are designed to help it to work. There are five ways in which this happens.
- Muscle Contraction
- Arterial Pulsation
- Healthy Gut movement
- Gravity
- Deep Breathing
So its important to be active, have a healthy bowel pattern, not to sit or stand for long periods of time and to practice deep breathing every day.
However from time to time our lymphatic system can become sluggish and this can manifest in fluid retention, fatigue, skin issues, bloating or gut issues, sinusitis, inflammation to name some. And this is where lymphatic or lymph drainage can play a role.
Lymphatic Drainage
Lymphatic drainage or Manual Lymph Drainage, to give it its proper title, is a gentle skin technique used to activate the natural occurring lymphatic system in the body. It is used to treat issues like fluid retention, lymphoedema, lipoedema, inflammation, gut issues, stress, anxiety, acne, sinusitis, sarcardosis, pain, post op recovery, PMT, wounds, leg ulcers, while supporting general health and wellbeing.
