#LymphoedemaAwareness week runs from 1st -7th March
Lymphoedema is a chronic disease causing swelling of the limbs and other body parts. It is estimated that up to 250 million people worldwide may suffer with lymphoedema.
As yet, there is no cure and those with the condition may have body disfigurement, pain, less mobility, and be more prone to some infections. To date there has been a little research on the condition, lack of a knowledge base by professionals, and poor understanding of the absolute needs for treatment by our healthcare system leaving many people with the condition unable to afford the necessary treatment.
One cornerstone of care for people who are at risk or who have developed lymphoedema is movement and exercise
The key is to stay active.
The British Lymphology Society have developed #EveryBodyCan campaign showing people that many objects around the home can be their Secret Weapon for their lymphatic health.
